QUAREC NF

Welcome to the QUAREC National Facility laboratory at the University of Wuppertal!

Named after the first quartz made atmospheric simulation chamber (i.e. QUArtz REaCtor) built in the early 1990's at the University of Wuppertal by a group led by Prof. Karl-Heinz Becker, the laboratory developed around the question: how to tackle experimentally atmosphere relevant oxidation processes?

The laboratory moved in 2018 to the actual location within the University’s’ premises. This was also the start of an intensive activity of rehabilitation to update and enhance the investigative capacities of the QUAREC NF to last until 2026. This activity is supported mainly by the ACTRIS-D national program (2021 – 2026) and targets to fully integrate our lab into the ACTRIS pan-European infrastructure.

The QUAREC NF comprises two established atmospheric simulation chambers: DURREC and QUAREC ASC, and the – presently under construction – WUTASC, together with dedicated analytical instrumentation. Main feature of the QUAREC NF is the study of complex gaseous reaction systems by means of in-situ infrared spectroscopy, complemented with on-line PTR-MS.

The QUAREC NF is connected, within the University of Wuppertal, with the Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Research (Institut für Atmosphären- und Umweltforschung, IAU) and the institute for pure and applied Mass Spectrometry (ipaMS).

The QUAREC NF is open to research, instrument development and validation studies, and training through the University of Wuppertal own education and research programmes, transnational access activities (TNA) schemes within European founded programmes and upon individual requests from interested parties. Please contact us if this sparks your interest.
